- 2010 Elections -
Upcoming is our next opportunity to throw the documented nanny-state assholes out of office and put into office those friendly to individual liberties and financial freedom. All that is left is the General Election on November 2nd. This year, the South Carolina House and Governorship is up for election.
Help keep South Carolina from ending up like North Carolina!

How to Read these Listings
For Primaries (in June), it’s within political parties, so choose the best freedom supporter within a party. For the General election (November), choose the candidate, regardless of party, that best supports freedom and your own preferences.
General Election races are now listed for this November 2nd - South Carolina State House races and the Governorship. I’m still getting information in, so revisit this page on occasion. So far, there are plenty of opportunities for us to put into office Representatives who support freedom.
Some candidates are candid, some just don’t respond, some have no way to contact them. Some below races have no distinction - but I will continue to try up until November 2nd. If I have it, I will include email addresses for the non-responders - maybe you’ll have better luck than I.
Below, based on their Bill authorship/sponsorship, voting record, public declarations of the past and present and, in many cases, personal correspondence, I can attempt to tell you who is what according to the following color scheme:

Comment: Few is a friend to freedom. Gunn is an enemy to freedom and belligerent about it.
Nikki Haley is a confirmed friend to freedom. She responded to me promptly and in writing. She’s getting my vote.

Comment: Corbin is a friend to freedom. Salter has yet to respond.
Comment: Kolarik is a friend to freedom. Dillard is definitely not.

Brannon, Doug - R *
Lewis, John - D
Comment: Lewis and Brannon are in support of freedom. Though Brannon had some support for the tax increase, he won’t raise it any more.
This is our enemy. They have proven by deed or declaration that they definitely support all smoking bans, tax increases and other anti legislation.
A dubious candidate. Either by media article, website hints or their personal attributes (i.e; medical doctor), AND a failure of them to set the record straight with me in correspondence, these people are strongly suspected to support smoking bans and tax increases.
Orange will also be used for people who refuse to share their views, won’t take any stand or have no contact info for sharing their views and are challenging a known good candidate.
Unknown. What separates them from orange is that their website or public declarations have not hinted at all that they are anti and I have reason to give them the benefit of the doubt.
This would mean that the candidate is opposed to smoking ban legislation, in businesses, of any form or degree (state or local) and, thus, truly supports individual and private property liberties.
Since we have the unfortunate reality that there are candidates that are against smoking bans but have some support for a tax increase, I will use a red asterisk to denote support for a tax increase, orange for a hesitant support for a tax increase or support for a small tax increase.
RED
ORANGE

VIOLET
Violet (Purple) indicates the candidate does NOT support a state-wide smoking ban, but does support local governments in passing bans. From a state representative perspective, the candidate won’t make things worse state-wide, but he does not demonstrate a respect for private property or business owners. Not ideal, but better than Red or Orange.
Comment: Yet to get info.

This will indicate an incumbent candidate who voted yes to overriding Governor Sanford’s veto of the 50 cents per pack tax increase on cigarettes. I will also use it to indicate an incumbent who did not vote on the override at all AND has shown support for the increase in past votes. Dodging the vote is also a guilty action.
